Elisabeth “Lisa” Joy Denyer Hoggan, age 51, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021, in Las Vegas, Nevada, after succumbing to pancreatic cancer. She was born August 3, 1970, in Pasadena, CA to Robert Edward Denyer and Trudy Schunk Denyer and grew up in San Gabriel, CA where she loved to swim and made many friends. On September 21, 1996, she married Barrett James Hoggan in Dove Canyon, California. They were sealed May 24, 1997, in the Bountiful Utah LDS Temple for time and all eternity.
She graduated and earned her Master’s Degree from Whittier College in Early Childhood Education. She loved teaching and her career spanned years that were interrupted by time raising her four children, who were her pride and joy. She raised her family in various western states before relocating to Las Vegas in 2006. Lisa was blessed with many talents and gifts, which she willingly shared. Lisa loved talking and spending time with her many friends. She enjoyed reading, movies, and particularly photography. She always said, “If you don’t have a picture of it, it didn’t happen.” She was always the designated photographer who kept a record of all the fun her family enjoyed. Lisa loved to travel, create, organize, and make events exceptional. She was a leader in every endeavor. Lisa loved family vacations–especially to the Colorado River in Big River, CA, which she lovingly referred to as her “Happy Place.”
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lisa embraced opportunities for service. She loved serving in her church as a teacher and leader in Relief Society, Primary, Young Women, Cub Scouts, and most recently, Activity Days. She was friendly and interested in others and made new friends everywhere she went. Lisa worked in her community, often supporting teachers, coaches, and students with her ideas and amazing follow-through. Lisa loved to do everything with flair. Whether it was singing or selling or helping others, she did it with relentless enthusiasm, style, and ingenuity. We have all been touched by her kindness and talents in some way.
Most of all Lisa will be remembered for being a loving mother and devoted wife. She was a mother who listened and counseled and participated deeply with each of her children. She was always available for them and bonded with them in ways that will serve them well as she becomes their guardian angel. She loved her husband with a deep and abiding love, yoked in mutual respect and partnership, and bound by loyalty, commitment, and eternal goals.
Survivors include her sweetheart and husband, Barrett James Hoggan, of Las Vegas, NV; three daughters and one son: Brittney (Bentley) Sayer currently living in Vineyard, UT; Caitlyn and Andrew, attending school in Provo, UT; Lacey of Las Vegas; mother, Trudy Denyer of Las Vegas; and brother, Larry (Karen) Denyer of Long Beach, CA.
