Leonard Henry, Sr., age 81, died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at his home in Moapa, Nevada surrounded by his family and friends. He was born September 23, 1933 in Overton, Nevada to Jim and Grace Chemehuevi Henry. On November 19, 1954 he married Adelaide Florence Lemos in Kingman, Arizona. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2004.
Leonard grew up on the Moapa Indian Reservation, attended and graduated from Stewart Indian School where he excelled in sports, especially football. He then entered the US Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. He raised his family in Sloan, Nevada where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired in the late '80's when he moved to Moapa. He enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, camping and time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include one son and four daughters: Leonard Jr. (Sherri); Patricia Medina; Lisa (Ural Begay); Toni; Lynnaire (Enrique Calvario Sanchez) all of Moapa, NV; 21 grandchildren; 33 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Carl Michael, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Moapa Tribal Building. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and Interment will follow in the Moapa Indian Cemetery.
