Leland Welton Ward, 85, passed away at home in Mesquite, NV on February 15, 2019 with his loving wife of over 65 years by his side after battling chronic leukemia for many years.
Born July 18,1933 Lee is the son of Kenneth L. and Marie Noorda Ward. He is survived by his wife, Sharen Mumford Ward, daughters Sherilee Jensen and her husband Larry, NV, and Jaylene Summers, UT. He is also survived by his grandchildren Monica (Summers) Short and her husband Mitchel, UT, Melanie (Summers) Clarke and her husband Mark, WA, and Rylee Welton Ward and Lexie, UT, and his siblings Ray Lynn Ward and his wife Gloria, UT, Dawna Ward Hastie, UT, Marilyn Ward, UT, and Kathleen Crawford and her husband Jay, UT, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his life-long best friend and brother-in-law Jay C. Mumford, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jon Welton Ward and his wife’s parents who he loved as his own, LaMar and Bessie Crezee Mumford.
Lee served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the University of Utah in Chemical Engineering and worked in the aerospace industry at Thiokol Corporation for his 35-year career, serving many years in senior management and as a Vice President. Among other work, he was able to be a part of the design and production of the solid rocket boosters used by NASA for the space shuttle, an experience he cherished.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lee valued his faith and testimony. He was a kind and patient man who lived a Christ-centered life, supporting and loving his wife and children. He touched many lives with his kindness and compassion.
Lee lived in Brigham City, UT for almost 60 years. Following retirement, he lived seasonally in Mesquite, NV and Island Park, ID.
His concluding months were spent in his home aided by his wife, oldest daughter and her husband, members of the Mesquite, NV LDS 8th Branch and the care provided by Mesa View Hospice.
