Laurence Richard Vieths, 79 a ten year resident of Mesquite, Nevada passed away peacefully at home with family on December 9, 2008. Larry (aka "The Duke") was born on February 2, 1929 in Flagler, Colorado. He grew up and graduated from high school in Council, Idaho. He met Josephine in Salt Lake City, Utah and they were married in Las Vegas on June 12, 1954. They were happily married for 54 years, and made their home and raised their six children there. He retired after 23 years of service with the City of Las Vegas Fire Department. He and Josephine then made their home in Mesquite after retirement. Larry enjoyed hunting, golfing, classic cars, and off-road racing where he participated and won 2nd place in the 1969 "Mint 400" Race. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who cherished his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Josephine; sons, Steve, Brian, Richard; daughters, Laura(Husband Tony)Pacchiano, Joyce, Cindy (Husband Curtis) Arnold; grandchildren, Travis, Courtney, Briana, Loren, and Aaron. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Virgin Valley Mortuary. The family is having private service but will have a open house on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 12-5 pm at the family home.
