Verna Laurea Leavitt Rodgers, age 75, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009 in Mesquite, Nevada. She was born October 12, 1934 to Alma Decatur and Ivie Jones Cox Leavitt. On January 21,1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Rex Dewayne Rodgers in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Laurea grew up in Moapa Valley, Nevada until she was fifteen years old. She and Rex lived in Las Vegas for 50 years where they raised their four children. They have lived in Overton, Nevada since 2005. Some of her hobbies were sewing, baking, floral arranging and gardening. Her greatest joy was her family. She had a special friendship with her sisters. She loved and cared about each one. She and Rex enjoyed spending time on trips and cruises. She will be remembered as a very classy lady and always dressed 'to-the-nines'.
Survivors include her three daughters and one son: Debbie Pettit of Overton, NV; Annie (Ernie) Rodgers of Henderson, NV; Julie Rodgers of Las Vegas, NV; David (Jillian) Rodgers of Rolesville, NC; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Irene Hunt of Las Vegas, NV.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Overton LDS 2nd ward Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, October 16, 2009 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be Monday, October 19, 2009 at 9:20 a.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
