Kincaid Davidson, age 74, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at St. George Regional Hospital, UT. He was born in Jacksonville, FL, on February 11, 1947 to Walter and Hazel (Sibthorpe) Davidson.
Kin enjoyed a childhood filled with pet dogs, turtles and alligators, upside down Christmas trees, summers at the lake near Gainesville with his maternal grandparents, having a paper route and enjoying all kinds of music. He graduated from the University of Florida and completed a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of West Florida. He lived in Logan, Utah, then helped his sister, niece, and nephew move to Los Alamos, NM, and decided to stay.
In 1985, he moved to Albuquerque, NM and worked at the UNM Mental Health Center, meeting his future wife, who was the food service director/registered dietitian. He moved to Bellingham, WA, to be closer to the ocean and forested areas in 1988. Kin and Virginia “Ginny” Hunter were married on November 25, 1988 in Fairview, MT.
Kin worked as a mental health detention professional in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. In 2000, he began a 15-year job with Sakuma Brothers Farms, designing and maintaining software. Kin served on the Samish Neighborhood Association board, the City of Bellingham Greenways Committee, and was president of his state professional organization. He and Ginny built their own home, where they enjoyed entertaining as many friends and family as could park in their yard. Kin was a “larger than life” guy, always upbeat, who enjoyed giving great hugs, watching people, travelling (especially the backroads), and having a cigar and occasional shot of really good tequila.
In 2017, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and received a stem cell transplant on July 31 of that year, a date he called his other birthday. In 2020, he and Ginny wanted a warmer, brighter climate than the Pacific Northwest, so they sold their Bellingham home in May 2021 and moved to Mesquite, NV, where a new home is being built.
When Kin contracted COVID-19 pneumonia, combined with the multiple myeloma, his immune system was overwhelmed. He chose comfort care and peacefully left us.
Kin is survived by his wife and partner-in-all-adventures Ginny, his sisters, Diane (Greg) Stone, Gara Monde, niece Lauren Atwill, nephew Cabot Norton, brother-in-law, Jim (Rhonda) Hunter, nieces Michele Butler, Colette Flores and Gail Hunter, and 9 great nieces & nephews, plus a legion of friends.
Kin wanted his family and friends to have a big party instead of a sad funeral. A celebration of his great escape will be held in the future.
