Lendon Kay Barney, age 91, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 in St. George, Utah. He was born March 28, 1925 in Escalante, Utah to Royal and Lily May Moosmann Barney. On December 17, 1948 he married Percia Mae Terry in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple.
Kay grew up in Escalante, Utah. He then moved to Benjamin, Utah, and later served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States where he met his sweetheart Mae who was also serving. He joined the US Navy and served during WWII and was stationed in the Pacific. He earned a Bachelor's and Master's in education from BYU. He taught music and mathematics at Western High School in Las Vegas for thirty-five years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and especially tying his own flies. Most important to him was his church service. He served as the 1st counselor in the first Temple Presidency when the Las Vegas Temple opened. He and Mae were able to serve four different missions together, and for the last twenty-two years he has served as a Patriarch.
Survivors include his wife Mae of sixty-eight years; four sons: David (Mary) of Las Vegas, NV; Carey (Annette) of Yorba Linda, CA; Arlin (Denise) of Marysville, WA; Brent (Sheral) of Las Vegas, NV; two daughters: Becky (Terry) Conk of Logandale, NV; Susan (Kelly) Adams of Ivins, UT; one son-in-law Ron Camp of South Jordan UT; thirty grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters: Terry (Marylin); Nina (Arthur) Reid both of Springville, UT; Jean (Ron) Brown of Boise, ID. He was preceded in death by one son and two daughters: Cynthia, Roger, and Loraine; five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale Stake Center. Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be Monday, January 23, 2017 at 1 p.m. (MST) at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
