Karen Marie (Clements) Cortez

October 7, 1959 — August 27, 2020

Henderson, NV

Karen Marie Cortez, 60, passed away on August 27, 2020 in Henderson, NV. Karen was born October 7, 1959 in Las Vegas, NV. to John Clements and Lucinda Burgess. Karen grew up surrounded by family, her favorite time of year was Thanksgiving, when she was young she loved playing with her sisters, and adored her nieces, nephews, and cousins. She had a love for music and and often would break out and sing to family members even over the phone. She loved family gathering, often going to Roger Springs. In her teen years she would push her bed to the window for a cool breeze and moonlight looking at a Sear’s and Roebuck catalog with her niece making future plans and dreaming of the places she would live. When her mother passed away, she moved to Texas to be with family, where she began to work at a convenience store. She met Arturo Dominguez, and they married and raised 6 sons. They moved back and forth from Texas and Nevada over the next two decades, until they separated and she settled in Overton in the early 2000's. She later married the love of her life Roman Cortez in Overton, NV on February 10, 2011, she enjoyed their time together until his passing on January 21, 2019. They had one daughter together Eustolia Miranda.

Karen loved spending time with her ever-growing family. They enjoyed many BBQ’s and reunions. She was a good cook (especially her fried chicken) and they enjoyed eating together. She was an excellent shopper and love shopping with her daughter Eustolia, garage sales, camping and being in the outdoors. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Church of Latter-day Saints and held may callings. As her health began to fail, she developed a talent in knitting and crocheting. She loved visiting with her neighbors, and was always going around her neighborhood, making sure everything was good. She was a genuine person and would tell you how it was. She was welcoming and loving, and loved her family.

Karen is survived by her children, Silvestre (Morisa) Dominguez, Juan Dominguez, Stacy Dominguez, Daniel Dominguez, Roy Dominguez, Humberto Dominguez, and Eustolia Miranda; her twenty grandchildren; her two great-grandchildren; her siblings, Charles (Paula) Simmons, Melvin (Carin) Simmons, Betty (Rodger) Maxwell, Suzy Clements Begay and sister-in-law Janet Burgess and her very large extended family.
