Mildred June Parkinson died peacefully on September 23, 2023, in Lehi, Utah, from natural causes. She was 81.
June grew up in Parowan, Utah, the youngest daughter of Joseph Victor and Vera Wood Decker. She knew what she wanted early in life, and married Zeldon Eugene “Parky” Parkinson at the tender age of 17. Gene served in the Navy, and she happily took on the role of a military spouse. They were later sealed in the St. George temple in April of 1983.
Because of her husband’s military service, June lived in a wide variety of places: North Carolina, California, Washington state, and back home to Utah while Gene served overseas. Upon her husband’s retirement from the Navy, they settled in Overton and, subsequently, Alamo, Nev. After Gene’s death in 2002, June moved back to Overton to live near some of her family.
June was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings, her favorite being ward librarian. She adored children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—the absolute lights of her life. She was always thinking of others, ready to take a meal or a treat to those whom she served or lend a listening ear to those who just needed someone to talk to.
June was preceded in death by her husband Gene; her firstborn infant son Russell; her daughter-in-law, Robin; her parents; and all of her siblings. She is survived by two daughters and two sons: Patricia Jane of Dallas, Texas; Susan Marie (Eliseo) Quirarte of Overton, Nev.; Thomas Scott (Pat) of Lehi, Utah; and Delmar George (Lorna) of Salt Lake City, Utah. She has nine grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11 a.m. PT at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2555 N. St. Joseph Street, Logandale, Nev. Visitation is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. PT, prior to services. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver, Utah, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 12 noon MT.
