Julio Ortiz

July 9, 1941 — July 2, 2023

Overton

Julio Luis Ortiz, 81, passed away in his home on July 2, 2023. He was a loving and wonderful father and husband.  Julio was born on July 9, 1941 in Manhattan, New York to Genaro Ortiz and Carmen Maldonado. He was the third eldest of fourteen children. He met Adelina Cortez, and they were married July 28, 1968 in New York.

Julio worked many years as a manager at the Broadway Store in Cerritos, CA. He struggled with loss of vision most of his life and was legally blind by 1991. With the loss of his sight, Julio became interested in HAM Radios, and spent much of his time learning the craft. He fell in love with breeding and racing pigeons.  Even with his vision challenge, he took the opportunity to volunteer and teach at the Braille Institute in Anaheim, CA. He also volunteered at the City of Hope Hospital for many years. He always cared for others, and his home was open to anyone.

Julio is survived by his wife, Adelina Ortiz; his son, Anthony (Andria) Ortiz; his grandchildren, Anika, Alahna, Ava, and Adrianne; and his siblings:  Gloria, Aurora, Violeta, James, Betty, Genaro, Carmen, Evelyn, Edward, and Joseph. He is preceded in death by his parents, Genaro and Carmen Ortiz, and his sister, Gladys.
