Joyce M. (Long) Lyttle

November 28, 1927 — September 23, 2019

Overton, NV

Joyce M. Lyttle, 91, a resident of Overton, Nevada, died peacefully Monday September 23rd 2019 at Beehive Care in Mesquite, Nevada.

Joyce was born November 28, 1927 in Glendale, California to Alice Merced Garretson Meyer and Eugene Meyer. After her mother died, Joyce and her sister Virginia lived in the Los Angeles Orphanage for three years before Joyce was adopted by Glenn and Gertrude Long, who were loving parents. Joyce attended school in Whittier, California and went on to attend The University of Southern California. In 1950 she earned a Bachelors in Elementary Education, before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Ed Lyttle, in 1951. Their son, Jeff, was born in 1952 in San Diego where Ed was stationed as a navy pilot.Their daughter Denise was born three years later after Ed had completed his time in the Navy. Joyce taught second grade in Indio, California, and in Ketchum, Idaho until retiring in 1987. Joyce and Ed loved spending time in the backcountry of Idaho and Nevada. Joyce could name almost any bird or wild flower she came across, and the few she couldn’t name were quickly researched. She loved learning new things, and this made the international trips they took even more fun.

Surviving are her husband Ed Lyttle at St. George Rehabilitation Center in St. George Utah, her daughter Denise Glen Lyttle Kauffman with husband, Neil, and children Amy in Moscow Idaho and Kira Cheldelin in Boise, Idaho, her daughter-in-law Karin Lyttle and children Amy Rivkin and Jed in Hailey Idaho, her brother Douglas Myers, a great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Jeff, and her sister Virginia.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice and Beehive Care for the compassion they demonstrated in a proud woman’s final months of life. We will be forever grateful to Lisa Watson, whose kindness as a neighbor will be remembered by us all.

Cremation has been planned. A small memorial service may be held, details will go out to friends and family. Moapa Valley Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in their Guest Book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com.
