Josephine Oxborrow

Mesquite, Nevada - Josephine Genevieve Fogliani Oxborrow, 98, passed away on March 10, at her home in Mesquite surrounded by her family. Delivered by a midwife, she entered this world on November 27, 1914 in Spring Valley, Nevada. Her parents immigrated to the US from the Italian community of Biasca, Switzerland in the early 1900s and settled on their ranch in Spring Valley where they raised eight children without benefit of electricity and indoor plumbing. On May 16, 1934 she married Chester Oxborrow at the Fogliani Ranch. Throughout the years they lived in a number of Nevada communities. After selling their ranch near Pioche, Nevada, they moved to Mesquite in 1986. Josephine was an extremely talented and creative woman. She played several musical instruments, including the piano, ukulele, harmonica and organ without any formal training. She loved to paint both in oils and watercolors and many of her art works hang on the walls of family and friends. She is survived by her son Anthony Oxborrow and daughter-in-law Marilyn in Mesquite, daughter Kathy Oxborrow, Bend, Oregon, sister Esther (Pete) Cole, Panaca, Nevada, eight grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and her dog, Shadow. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 16, at the LDS Whipple Building at 100 North Arrowhead in Mesquite at 2:00 pm. She will be buried on Monday, March 18 in the Lund, Nevada cemetery next to her husband, Chester who died in 1994. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in her name be given to the Salvation Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Virgin Valley Mortuary in Mesquite, NV.
