John Martin Gunderson

November 13, 1939 — December 5, 2017

Marty (John Martin) Gunderson, 78, picked up his shoeing tools and rode off into the wild blue yonder Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV following a massive stroke.

Marty graduated High School from Napa High in Napa Valley, California. He met and married, Phyllis Adams on Dec 7, 1986. They enjoyed 31 great years together. They loved traveling and lived in Arizona, California, Kansas, Tennessee and Nevada. They were Best Friends and taught each other how to love again.

Marty was a cowboy who loved tending to horses. He was a hard worker, he did what he loved and he loved what he did. He enjoyed fishing with Jude, shoeing horses, reading Louis L'Amour books, and spending time with his family. Marty loved good food, socializing and storytelling. His stories and smile would light up the room and will forever be imprinted in the hearts of those who heard them.

He leaves his sweetheart and wife, Phyllis(Adams)Gunderson and her brother and sisters; his children: Tammy(Scott)Gullett, Sandy(David)Augustus, Allen(Lisa)Gunderson, Tracy(Andrew)Beattie, Jody(Fred)Gingrich, Boyd Parcell; his grandchildren: Dominique Gunderson, Avi Gunderson, Jude Beattie, Brandon(Ana)Parcell, Brittany(Brenden)Shugart, Matthew(Kendra)Thompson, Jared Thompson, Bethany(Matthew)Guibord, Christopher(Rose)Gullett, Rosilynn(Brandon)Kline , Jillian McDonnell, Kady Augustus and Ashley Augustus; his great grandchildren: James Gullett, Carolynn Kline, Amelia McDonnell, Elaine Gullett, Noah Thompson, Forest Thompson and Pattsi Jo Shugart. Marty also leaves behind his siblings: Ronald(Sylvia)Gunderson, Kathy (Howard)Gilbert; his nephews: Johnathan(Wilma)Gunderson, Daniel Gunderson, Paul Gilbert and Daniel Gilbert and his two great nephews: Jesse and Colin Gunderson. He was preceded in death by his father and mother: John I. Gunderson and Laddie Gunderson.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Centennial Hills Hospital, and the Compassionate staff at Nathan Adelson Hospice for the Love and Care they gave Marty in his last days. No one should end the journey of life alone, afraid or in pain.

When I die, remember that what you knew of me is with you always. What is buried is only a shell of what was. Do not regret the shell, but remember the man. Remember the father. –Louis L’Amour
