Jimmy Aka Joey Begay

Jimmy Begay Jr. (AKA Joey) was born on June 29, 1965 in Las Vegas, NV. Jimmy passed away on March 22, 2022 in Las Vegas, NV. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents: Velda Lee Begay and Jimmy Begay Sr. He is survived by his Uncle Philbert and Aunt Cathy Swain, Aunt Lalovi Miller, Uncle Preston Tom, many cousins, and especially his cousin and bestie, Mary Lou Lopez, and his dog.

Joey grew up in Jean, NV and attended Good Springs Elementary school due to his father’s Railroad job; before moving home to the Moapa River Indian Reservation. Joey attended the Moapa Valley School K-12. He was a member fo the Class of 1983. He was in the top ten of the graduating class. He was listed as the Best Dressed in his class. He was in the Photography club and school paper, Spanish Club and a member fo the Honor Society. After graduation, Jimmy attended BYU, UNR, and UNLV, and other learning institutions. He had a thirst for knowledge and could pick up and learn about new situations and ideas fast. He tutored his many cousins in math and science. He could multitask and excelled in math and science. Joey was not afraid to work: he could change oil in his vehicles as he was taught by Milton Peterson and his Uncles. He could help fix electrical problems and help fix computers. He was also known for his love of music and amateur DJ skills when he held Joey’s Discoes at the Tribal Building.

Joey worked for the Las Vegas Hilton in Human Resources, Sunrise Hospital in Medical Records, and with the Las Vegas and Moapa Vocational Rehabilitation. He drove a yellow cab and his latest job was as a long haul truck driver with his dog, which fulfilled his love of travel and to see new things and experience the divers culture that is here in the USA.

Joey will be missed by his family and friends that he left behind. Fly high, Cousin.
