Jay Ross Griggs

Jay Ross Griggs, age 82, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at his winter home in Echo Bay, Nevada. He was born October 13, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to John Roland and Helen Amelia Maier Griggs. On May 29, 1956 he married Carla Lorraine Finley in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Jay grew up in Idaho Falls and served in the US Army as a Military Policeman during the Korean Conflict. He later joined the Air Force, moving his family in Plattsburg, New York. He had a goal to move to Alaska, build a log cabin and learn how to fly, and that’s exactly what he did. He lived in the North Pole working for the Corps of Engineers, though ultimately taking medical retirement in Cove, Utah in 1978. He built a home in Cove with his sons. He and Carla enjoyed watching their kids and grandkids grow as they started wintering in Echo Bay in 1996.

Jay loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing as much as almost anything. He was a talented artist and enjoyed making jewelry. Always easy to talk to, he never met a stranger. He remained faithful to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout his life and was a distinguished example of a great man.. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carla; his son, Michael J. (Wendy) of Bountiful, UT; daughter, Kathlene J. (Brent) Christensen of Riverton, UT; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one brother, Jack W. Of Idaho Falls, ID. He was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel and David and one brother, Mervin.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Cove LDS Chapel, (12832 N. 1200 E.) Cove, Utah. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Lewiston City Cemetery, Lewiston, Utah.
