James Hyrum Steel, age 76, died Sunday, December 28, 2008 at his home in Logandale, Nevada. He was born March 12, 1932 in Plano, Idaho to James Hamilton and Myrtle Pearl Oakey Steel. On August 13, 1958 he married Lorraine Gloria Krausz in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Jim grew up in Plano, Idaho, served an LDS Mission to Canada, served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, then raised his family in Parker, Idaho. He worked as a farmer and also as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He served faithfully in the LDS Church as a Bishop, Ward Clerk for 14 years and in various other callings. He served a mission with his wife in California. He will be remembered as a hard worker, loving husband, father and grandfather and for his many Swedish Weave handiwork gifts. He and Lorraine lived the last eleven winters in Logandale, Nevada.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lorraine; two sons and two daughters: Chesley (Kris) of Albuquerque, NM; Bret (Hollie) of Salt Lake City, UT; Kami (Gordon) Smith of Rexburg, ID; Cozette (Tyler) Freckleton of Kaysville, UT; fourteen grandchildren and one brother, Louis (Thelma) Steel of St. George, Utah. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Parker LDS Chapel in Parker, Idaho. Interment will be in the Parker Cemetery.
