James H. Miars

James "Jim" Miars, 88, devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully at his residence in Mesquite on February 21, 2010 due to natural causes. Jim was born May 15, 1921 to Bernard David Miars and Alice Wunderling Miars in Minneapolis, MN. He married Shirley Miars in Minneapolis, MN in 1947.

Jim proudly served our country as a member of the 50th Seabees during World War II. He returned to resume his profession as a plumber and pipefitter which led him to be assigned to an electroplating company in Minneapolis. In 1971 he joined a group of seven employees of that company to form Hard Chrome, Inc., a successful company in Minneapolis. He retired and relocated to Mesquite in December of 1994.

Jim was a proud member of Star Spangled Banner V.F.W. Post 1149 in Minneapolis, MN, Forest Lake American Legion Post 225 in Forest Lake, MN and The Military Order of the Cooties. He enjoyed being an active participant in the activities of those organizations during the 1970's and 1980's.

Jim enjoyed golf, bowling and other recreational sports. He loved hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. He was highly interested in spectator sports and coin collecting. He loved to entertain friends and family in his home.

Jim is survived by his son Kurk and daughter Terry Torbeck of Mesquite, NV; grandson Shawn Martin of Castle Rock, CO; and his brother Frank Miars of Walnut Creek, CA. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Shirley, his sister Annibel Miars and brother Bernard Miars of Minneapolis, MN.

A joint graveside memorial service for Jim and Shirley will be held at the Mesquite Cemetery on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Friends may call or e-mail at any time. Any memorials should be directed to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg, MD, 20871.
