Howard Harding Holmes

Howard H. Holmes, retired Tech Sergeant in USA Air Force, age 87, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 in Boulder City, Nevada. He was born January 14, 1921 in Moffat, Colorado to Harry Lincoln and Julia Holmes. On May 24, 1980 he married Gwendolin Kelly in the St. George, Utah Temple.

In 1998 Howard moved to Las Vegas, NV from St. George, UT for health reasons. He spent 21 years serving in the United States Air Force, during which time he took part in the Normandy Landing (D-Day). Howard earned many medals, ribbons and awards while serving in the military which include: Good Conduct Medal with two silver loops, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Normandy-Northern France-Ardennes-Rhineland-Central Europe, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four bronze oak leaf clusters, USAF NCO Academy graduate ribbon and, Philippine Independence Ribbon. Howard was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed working in the St. George Temple. He was a member of the Sons of Pioneers and American Legion post 90 in St. George, UT. He was also a lifetime member of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. He would teach ballroom dancing at the senior center in St. George, UT.

Survivors include his wife Gwendolin Holmes; two sons, Kirk (Toni) Holmes of Las Vegas, NV and Clete (Michelle) Holmes of Las Vegas, NV; three step children Shirley Fox of Apple Valley, CA, Gayle (Joe) Hogan of Las Vegas, NV, and Mary (Pastor Doyle) Larkin of Florence, CO; one brother, Kenneth Holmes of American Fork, UT; a niece, Marie Spencer of Spanish Fork, UT; 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 19 great great grandchildren. Proceeding Howard in death where two step children, Bonita Bell and Clayton Sampson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 3:00pm Nevada time at Palms Northwest Mortuary. A public viewing will be held Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 2:00pm Nevada time at Palms Northwest Mortuary 6701 N. Jones Las Vegas, NV. Burial will take place following the service at the Palms Northwest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or the American Legion www.legion.org. The family would like to thank the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City, NV and their staff for the care and compassion shown Howard.
