Our hearts are broken as we share the news of the passing of Hartmut “Hart” Krumpholz. On May 10, 2022 our beautiful Hart returned to his star. He will be united through his passing with his Mother and Father Erika & Adolf Krumpholz as well as his two brothers and four sisters.
Hart’s time on earth was nothing short of the American Dream. It started in war torn Germany at the end of World War II on March 23rd, 1949. Not to be deterred by adversity, Hart’s parents brought him & all of his siblings to the United States. Coming through Ellis Island was the start of the next chapter for Hart. Ultimately landing in Colorado, Hart’s family faced more tragedy when he lost his father & his sister as well as 2 of his nephews and a niece, in a fatal car accident. During this painful time Hart stayed close to family and began living with one of his sisters. The belonging provided in his sister’s home while living through the difficult race problems in 1960’s Arkansas, may be when Hart started showing his well known virtues of compassion and generosity as well as his infamous love for politics. For Hart, his love of politics was more than just talk and those who know him also know Hart’s patriotism ran deep. He was not yet a naturalized citizen when Hart became a part of the Vietnam War. Hart grew his wings with the173rd Airborne Brigade & ultimately joined his heros becoming part of the famous
82nd Airborne Division.
It was during this kaleidoscope of events when Hart was proud to officially become an American Citizen and to have found his most treasured love, Frances Gallardo. He joyously married his beautiful bride October 17th, 1968. Fran/Mom/Grammy/Great-Grammy , Hart’s lovingly devoted wife of 53 & 1/2 years, continues to shepherd Hart’s thankful family; including his two sons Kenneth Hart & Jason Hart, his 6 grandkids, & his three great grandkids.
Hart was a devoted family man and this was evident & obvious in everything he did. Providing for his family and giving to his church & his community is part of what defined Hart. The love he carried for his wife is legendary and unquestioned. So in striving to provide for her and his two sons, it was no surprise that this hardworking family oriented young man joined his brother to start a little family business and found what Hart has become known for most in his community, K & K Surplus.
K & K was one of Hart’s proudest successes. For him it was a means to provide. But being true to his nature Hart also knew how to use his work as a way to give. Hart gave to schools, always believing in kids. He gave to charities that help kids. He gave to “family teams” (sports, racing, shooting and the like) as his way of helping their kids in the community. He gave to the kids off of the Ice Cream truck instead of selling it to them. Hart gave to kids who wandered into his business and needed a little belonging. Hart is the generous quiet gentle man in countless stories from members of the community telling of “the nicest” guy at K & K. He was known for telling customers who needed just that little touch of help with an item, to “just take it and catch me next time” when they would try to figure out how to pay for their small but needed thing. Hart lived true to his name, with a generous open heart.
His life of hard work and dedication to his family helped to afford him and his bride a most fitting & celebrated chapter in Hart’s story. He was able to realize his dream of moving him & his Love, Fran, out to the beautiful desert of Mesquite, Nevada. The peaceful desert will be Hart’s final resting place. Hart will be given his country’s military honors at 12:00 p.m. on May 31st, 2022 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
