Gwendolin Kelly Sampson Holmes
Gwendolin Holmes, age 98, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 15, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born January 2, 1913 in Hurricane, Utah to John Joseph and Lucile Lee Kelly. On January 21, 1929 she married Darvel A. Sampson in Fremont, Utah. They moved to Las Vegas in 1932. They had six children and were married 40 years. God brought her another love, Howard Holmes and they were married on May 24, 1980 in the St. George LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2008. Howard and Gwendolin lived most of their life in St. George, Utah where she worked as an insurance saleswoman. As a faithful member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served as an ordinance worker in the Temple and in various other callings. In 1998, she and Howard moved to Las Vegas to be near family for their health concerns. She will be remembered as a beautiful, loving, kind, and godly woman by her family and friends. Survivors include three daughters: Shirley Fox of Apple Valley, CA; Reverend Gayle (Joe) Hogan of Las Vegas, NV; Mary Alice (Pastor Doyle) Larkin of Florence, CO; two step sons, Kirk (Toni) Holmes; Clete (Michelle) Holmes both from Las Vegas, NV; 21 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 55 great great grandchildren and one brother in law, Danny Cassels. Preceded by 2 sons, William and Clayton, 1 daughter, Bonita Bell, 5 grandchildren; 1 brother and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Desert Sage Ward, 4201 E. Stewart, Las Vegas, Nevada. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Palm Mortuary Northwest Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary, 702 398-3600.
