Grant Lynn Bowler

Grant Lynn Bowler, age 79, past away Saturday, September 28, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born March 6, 1934 in Bunkerville, NV. He is the oldest son of Grant Martin Bowler and Verna Leavitt Bowler. He grew up in Logandale, NV, where he had a small boy fantasy life come true. Fishing, swimming, fields of corn and melons; he played war with rubber guns, topped the day off with the toot from the engines whistle that pulled into the packing shed. Life was good. His parents always taught him important priorities which were church and family. He attended Logandale School, then on to attend MVHS, where he starred in football and was student body president.

In 1954 he married his high school sweetheart Alene Skousen. He graduated from the University of Nevada Reno with a degree in chemistry and was commissioned 2nd lieutenant into the United States Army Reserve. He completed training as a chemical corps officer at Fort McClellan, AL and served 2 years at Dugway Proving Grounds, UT. After leaving the Army he taught in Las Vegas at Hyde Park until 1962. In 1963 he transferred to MVHS and taught psychology, chemistry, senior math, speech, served as a counselor, coached cross country and served as class advisor. In1968 he was awarded a Ford Foundation Scholarship which allowed him to complete a master's degree in counseling at Arizona State University and the University of Mexico in Mexico City. Upon retirement he became director of the Clark County Fair in Logandale.

He served faithfully throughout his life for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a bishop, a member of the stake presidency, and as a seminary teacher. He was also very active in his community as a member of the local chapter of the Lions Club and the Rotary Club among others. He is survived by his wife Alene Skousen Bowler. Two sons: Lynn N. Bowler (Margene), Terry W. Bowler (Brenda); one daughter, Fara Alene Day (Ben), with 13 grandchildren, and 3 great granddaughters, and several foster children they raised as their own; his sister Katherine Hannig (Jerry), sister Tresa Leavitt (Raoul), sister in law (Beaulah Bowler), sister Lori Markosek (Edward), brother Nick Bowler (Bonnie), and numerous Indian families. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom and sons Niels and Joseph Grant and his niece Lara.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Overton 2nd Ward chapel. Visitation will be Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Logandale Cemetery.
