Gordon "Gus" Nilsson Ford, age 76, died peacefully Saturday, August 29, 2009 in Orem, Utah surrounded by all his children and their spouses. He was born October 11, 1932 in Raymond, Alberta, Canada to John Henry and Ada E. Nilsson Ford. On March 21, 1958 he married LaVee Harris in Ogden, Utah. They had three children and were married until 1977. On September 22, 1979 he married Donna Fowler in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, they were divorced in 1999.
Gordon grew up in Ogden Utah. At age 20 he joined the US Navy during the Korean Conflict where he earned various medals and stars. After his release from the Navy, he worked as an Electronic Tech on F-16 Fighter Jets for 31 years at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden. He made many friends through different organizations like the Jackalopes, Elk's Lodge, Eagles and the American Legion. He also served as President of the Jaycee's - Sunset Utah chapter. After he retired he lived in Overton, NV for 24 years. He was a natural mechanic and enjoyed working with his hands as he built two homes and rebuilt many vehicles. He enjoyed spending time with his family while camping, hunting, fishing waterskiing, and riding motorcycles. When asked what he would like to be remembered by most he replied, "not what I accomplished, but what we did as a family".
His entire family preceded him in death, his mother, father and two sisters Shirley and Marilyn. Survivors include one daughter and two sons: Loni (Vance) Winn of Orem, UT; Larry (Layna) Ford of Buckley, WA; Kevin (Donnetta) Ford of Clearfield, UT; nine grandchildren; Garen, Valeri & Stefani Winn; Dustin & Mitchel Ford; Kyle, Tyman, Josh & Veronica Ford; and four great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the loving care Golden Living and Hospice of Utah provide their father these last couple of months. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary, Logandale, Nevada 702 398-3600. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
