Gloria Bowers Leavitt, age 79, passed away, Tuesday, October 4, 2016 peacefully at her home in Mesquite, Nevada. She was born May 25, 1937 in Kanab, Utah to Christopher Heaton and Fay Stevens Bowers. On August 3, 1957 she married Owen Douglas Leavitt in American Fork, Utah. On February 29, 1964 they were sealed in the St. George LDS Temple. Gloria grew up in Kanab until moving to American Fork, Utah at the young age of five. She graduated High School then attended nursing school in Salt Lake City. After she married Owen, they made their home in Mesquite, Nevada. In 1970 she began a long career with Clark County School District as the Cafeteria Manager. She was famous for her delicious cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed handicrafts, sewing, crocheting and quilting. She also enjoyed reading, traveling and texting her grandchildren. Survivors include two sons and two daughters: Julie (Ron) Ellett of Ivins, UT; Steven (Shannon) of Mesquite, NV; Scott (Ellen) Las Vegas, NV; Jalinah (John) Dorsett of Phoenix, AZ; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents one stillborn brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Mesquite 6th Ward Whipple Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, October 7, 2016 from 6 - 8 p.m. and again Saturday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Mesquite City Cemetery.
