Gerry A. Sugihara, age 75, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 in Mesquite, Nevada. He was the eldest child born in Puyallup, Washington on April, 21, 1939 to George T. and Margaret Hoshi Sugihara. He married Yvonne Jensen (Shelly and Scott) and they were later divorced. He then married his eternal soul mate Virginia Wainwright (Julie) on January 24, 1968.
As a child the family was interned in Idaho during the war and later relocated to Ogden, Utah where Gerry was raised with his 4 brothers and 1 sister. He had a wonderful childhood playing with his siblings and neighborhood friends. He graduated from Ogden High and attended Weber State University.
Gerry owned several businesses and had a long and successful career in the auto business working and eventually retiring from Petersen Motor Company after 20 years.
He and Virginia were inseparable partners and rarely were apart during their long marriage. Gerry never sat still. He loved to travel, water and snow ski, snowmobile, ride his vast array of motorcycles, dance and kept himself busy with home projects. He valued family, honor, respect and education . He instilled this in his family until the day he passed.
Gerry and Virginia lived in South Ogden and later built their dream home in Uintah. Upon their retirement in November 2006, they moved to Mesquite, Nevada. He was a member of the Japanese Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Mesquite; two daughters and one son: Shelly (Que) Gallegos of St. George, UT; Scott of Ogden, UT; and Julie (Matthew) Thurston of St. George, UT. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Zachary Ellis, Alexandra Ellis, Christian Trevino, Ryan Thurston, Grace Thurston, and great-grandson Kayden Anderson; his mother Margaret, brothers Victor, Larry (Lilly), David (Cheryl), and Phillip (Geri) and sister Gayle (Larry) Brice.
Gerry is preceded in death by his father, George; sister-in-law, Sharon, niece Jory, and numerous Aunts and Uncles.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 29 at the Lindquist Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden at 2 p.m. A viewing will be held prior to services from 12 - 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Lindquist Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, Ogden.
