Gene K Campbell, 89, passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on January 4, 2021.
Born in Haxtun, CO in 1931 he grew up in Grand Junction, CO where he met and married his wife of 68 years. After a brief time in the Air Force and with the Uranium fever in full bloom, the next 11 years he worked as a diamond driller with family in tow throughout the western and southwestern part of the United States. Securing a job at the Nevada Test Site with REECO in 1962 he moved to Las Vegas for the remainder of his life. He took great pride in his position as Project Manager over the drilling division referring to his 30-year career “as a the most interesting time of my life.”
He was an avid fisherman, sun worshiper and golfer. Having boundless energy, his 29 years of retirement kept him busy. Almost daily he would be seen driving his baby blue 62 Chevy truck with his fishing boat behind it, to his favorite fishing spot. He enjoyed cooking, staying up to date with current events and a book by his side, always. He lived his life as his favorite saying, “how sweet it is”.
Survived by his loving wife, Connie, daughters Sheri (Stef), Debbie, Cindy, grandchildren Crystal (Troy), Amy (Daniel), Michelle (Joe), Jack (Gale), Shannon (Sia), Jessica, and great grandchildren, Jonas, Bryten, Danny, Zaiden, Zac, Jordana, Ramsey with another one on the way.
His Grandchildren will remember him as their loving “Pops” who they fished and camped with, sharing memories around the campfire. They will never forget how he would laugh and cry at the same time.
Gene Campbell had a strong presence within his family and will forever be missed. Rest in peace, “Genie Boy”.
A Celebration of Life at a future date.
