Gaynell Call Mackay, 90, passed away on June 13, 2022 in Las Vegas, NV. Gaynell was born on October 10, 1931 in Omaha, NE to Owen Udell Call and Maguerite Olson. Her family moved to Salt Lake City, UT, then to Ely, NV, and her family eventually ended up in Las Vegas, NV. As a young girl, her mother encouraged a love for music, and Gaynell learned to play the organ, piano, and the bassoon. She also was a Majorette with her two sisters at Las Vegas High School and BYU. She met her future husband, Lowell Stewart Mackay, when his mission companion married her sister, and they were soon married on June 8, 1953 in the Salt Lake City, UT Temple. They raised eight wonderful children, and loved all of the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that came later. Gaynell loved playing card and board games with her grandchildren and working on puzzles. She was an avid reader, and joined a book club, which became the longest running book club in Nevada. She was the most loving, kind, and caring woman to everyone around her. Her family was everything to her and she was unfailingly dedicated to them. An example of her devotion was the love and care she gave her beautiful daughter, Brenda and to her mother as she cared for her for fourteen years until her mother’s passing. Her love for the Savior was evident in everything she did. She had a great sense of humor and gave freely of her love and time. She was often cooking, and would feed anyone that came to her home. Even through all of the hardships in her life, she often chose to laugh rather than cry.
Gaynell is survived by her children, Dennis (Jolene) Mackay, Sid (Dawn) Mackay, Royce (Carolyn) Mackay, Brent (Janna) Mackay, Brenda Mackay, Greg (Andrea) Mackay, Randy (Joan) Mackay, and Charlene Royce; her thirty-seven grandchildren; her seventy-two great-grandchildren (with two on the way); her two great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Anita (Tex) Demille and Margie (Jerry) Cox. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Stewart Mackay; her parents; and her siblings, Rheen (Marjorie) Call and Geneva (Marv) Petersen.
