Gail Marie Hellander, age 74, died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at her home in Henderson, Nevada. She was born February 20, 1943 in Butte, Montana to Harold and Verle Opal Quam Holmes. Gail grew up in Butte, Montana and graduated from Nursing School at St. Patrick’s School of Nursing in Missoula. She then became a stewardess nurse on the Northern Pacific Railroad, traveling regularly from Chicago to Seattle. In 1973 she married William Cimino in Florence, MT. They were later divorced. In 1982 she married John Frederick Hellander in Stevensville, MT. They had one child and were later divorced.
Gail raised her daughter in Stevensville, Montana, while taking care of her elderly mother for many years. She worked as a registered nurse for Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, where she served her patients with the utmost kindness and an infectious smile. She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in many capacities, her favorite being in the Primary organization, both as a leader and as a teacher. She will be remembered as a loving, caring mother and daughter, as well as a completely devoted grandmother to her two grandsons, who lovingly nicknamed her "Grandma Paw Patrol".
Survivors include one daughter, Leah (Rick) Canterbury and their two sons: Grant and Mason of Henderson, NV; one brother, Lee (Avone) Holmes of Helena, MT and their five daughters. She also always held a special place in her heart for her step children from her previous marriage: Lori Hellander of Portland, OR; Lisa (Tom) Rhoads of Vancouver, WA; Rob Hellander of San Diego, CA; Jennifer Greene of Las Cruces, NM; and Jason (Corene) Hellander of Littleton, CO.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Highland Hills Ward, 801 Arrowhead Trail, Henderson, NV. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. MST in the Sunset Memorial Park in Gregson, Montana.
