Fredrick (Rick) Stuve JR, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 31, 2019 in Mesquite, Nevada surrounded by loved ones. Rick was born on December 8, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to Fredrick William Stuve and Dorothy Nelson.
Rick moved to Riverside, California as a child and spent the majority of his life there. At the age of 17, Rick enlisted in the United States Navy. Rick was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served his country aboard the USS Cavalier (APA-37) San Diego, California from 1964-1967 earning an Honorable Discharge.
In 1969 Rick married, Dolores “Dollee” (Rodriguez) Stuve. Together, Rick and Dollee raised two sons, Fredrick “Rick” William Stuve III and Robert “Bobby” William Stuve. Rick and Dollee later divorced after 35 years of marriage.
Rick attended college at California State University, San Bernardino where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources with an emphasis in Aerospace Management. Rick was most proud of earning Employee of the Year while employed with United Airlines for earning the company over one million dollars in ticket sales.
Rick enjoyed traveling, especially to visit Civil War sites, such as Gettysburg and Vicksburg in the Eastern United States. Included in Rick’s travels that were most memorable to him were trips to Germany and Austria which he spent with his family. Rick often talked about how he enjoyed drinking the beer, eating Jagerschnitzel, followed by the “Best chocolate in the world” while in Germany.
Rick’s pastimes included reading Civil War novels, watching the Seattle Seahawks play, old Western movies, the television game show Jeopardy, playing golf and fishing with his sons and grandson. Rick was most proud of the 20lb Catfish he landed while fishing with his son and grandson just weeks before passing away.
Rick is survived by his two sons, Rick (DeAnna) Stuve , Hemet, California, Robert (Wendy) Stuve, Mesquite, Nevada; four grandchildren- Christina & Kaitlyn Stuve, Hemet, California, Nathan & Lauren Stuve, Mesquite, Nevada; Sister- Nancy (Ralph) Schmoller, Palos Verdes, California; Brothers- Robert (Jody) Nelson, Brandon, Mississippi, Tom (Nancy) Stuve, Carson City, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Eileen Prince.
Rick will be missed and remembered by many; but especially by his grandchildren who knew him best as “Papa Rick.”
Memorial services will be held in Mesquite, Nevada at a date to be determined followed by the spreading of his ashes at Zion National Park, Utah. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on their Guestbook.
