Fred E. Pierce

Fred Pierce died unexpectedly at his home in Mesquite, Nevada on April 25, 2009. He was born in Spirit Lake, Iowa on February 13, 1944 and was raised in Lake City, Iowa. After high school, Fred attended Wayne State College where he received his bachelors and masters degrees. He later taught and coached baseball at Wayne State College. He earned his doctorate in education administration from the University of Wyoming in Laramie in 1971 and served as an assistant superintendent in Casper, Wyoming from 1973 until 1990. He later became Superintendent of Schools.

Fred loved to hunt at the cabin in Dubois, WY with his many friends. He always looked forward to his annual trip to Iowa to fish with his brother Denny. Baseball was his other passion and in 2005 was inducted into Wayne State College Hall of Fame for his success as a coach of one of the most successful baseball team in the college's history. His WSC 1973 baseball team successfully held an unbroken winning record of 30 years. Fred delighted in sharing the successes of his grandchildren with everyone.

Fred is survived by one daughter, Christine Hendricks of Glenrock, Wyoming and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Brock and Madison of Glenrock, former wife, Sue Kopcha of Surprise, AZ, sister, Betty Green of Lake City, Iowa, and his companion, Joyce Fukasawa of Mesquite. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Pierce, and several brothers and sisters.
