Mesquite, NV - Franklin Michael Mickelson, 94 passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 22, 2016. He was born August 30, 1921 in Lago, Idaho to Michael and Sadie Harris Mickelson. He married Louise Speirs on January 15, 1943 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They were married 49 years when she passed away. He met Colleen Greathouse Levy in a bowling league and married her two years later on Oct 23, 1993.
Mike grew up on a small farm, the youngest of 7 children. He went to school at Thatcher, Idaho. He worked hard running the family farm with his father until he was drafted during WWII. He completed officer training and was honorably discharged at the end of the war. He and Louise had 9 children while they lived in Idaho. In 1969 he moved the family to Mesquite, NV. After Louise passed away he married Colleen Levy and moved to Washington, UT where he lived for 18 years until she passed away in 2012. He moved back to Mesquite where his children cared for him. He loved to bowl and participated in several leagues with his friends. He also loved to sing and performed for church and civic functions for over 75 years. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and faithfully served in every calling he was offered.
He is survived by all of his nine children: Dale (Wilma), Ted (Nancy), Bruce (Linda), Russell (Julie), Blake (Sharon), Colleen (Larry) Clemens, Vay (Marie), Elaine (Laren) Abbott, Brian (Valisa). He is also survived by 38 of his grandchildren, 106 great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, and all of his siblings, his first and second wife and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the LDS Stake Center on 100 N. Arrowhead Lane, in Mesquite Nevada on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, and Friday morning before the services beginning at 9:30 AM at the same location. Interment will be at the Mesquite City Cemetery under the direction of Virgin Valley Mortuary.
