Eugene Michael Kasmar Jr. passed away on September 1, 2009 after his long battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.
Eugene (Geno) was born in Cirero, Illinois on November 28, 1949 to his loving parents Eugene and Rosemary Kasmar. He was their first of two children.
In 1955 the family packed up and moved to California, where his mother's parents had moved a year previously. His father was a fireman in Cirero and got a job as a fireman in California.
Eugene attended the Inglewood Unified School District from the first grade to his high school graduation from Morningside High in June of 1967. He then attended El Camino Junior College in Torrance for two years, then attended and graduated from Cal State Long Beach in June 1971. He then attended night and weekend classes, and in 1976 received a Masters Degree in Education from Pepperdine University.
In September, 1971 Eugene was hired by the Torrance Unified School District as a elementary school teacher. He worked for Torrance for 31 years until his untimely illness caused him to retire early in June of 2002. He taught at Yukon Elementary, Hickory School, and lastly Arlington Elementary. He also taught briefly at North Torrence High School at night in computer class.
He met and worked with so many wonderful staff, students, and parents. He enjoyed his wonderful and fulfilling career. He was a kind and sharing man who enjoyed to help others and loved to give advice.
During his life he has many hobbies and interest such as snowsking, softball, darts, bowling, pool, and golf. He really loved restoring his old 1952 Hudson. He also enjoyed making trips to Las Vegas two or three times a year and playing Video Poker, Blackjack, and Pai Gow Poker.
Eugene finally met the love of his life Sheri in 1996. She was also in education where she was a special education assistant. They were married in September 2002 at their favorite vacation spot, Las Vegas.
In 2003 they moved to Mesquite, NV where it was more affordable, less crowded, cleaner air, beautiful scenery, and a slow pace of life.
In California Sheri has two daughters and three grandchildren. Eugene's mother, Rosemary, also lives in California.
Eugene will be cremated in Mesquite and his ashes will be given to his wife. There will be no services at his request but the family would like to invite you to sign our online guestbook at www.virginvalleymortuary.com .
