Ethelene (Quesenberry) Burgi

October 25, 1921 — November 25, 2021

Mesquite

Ethelene, our precious mother, became God’s newest angel on November 25, 2021; she suffered a stroke on the evening of November 20, 2021.  She had just celebrated her 100th birthday in October, a milestone she always knew she would reach.  She was a resident of BeeHive Homes in Mesquite, NV for the past year and half and had come to love all her care givers there.  She loved how good they were to her, how they all seemed like family and she never failed to mention their kindness.
Ethelene was an athlete.  She was a track star in high school and that carried over into her college years to hold the high jump record at Louisiana Tech for over 30 years.  She met Herschel, a marine and the love of her life, during her second year of college, and for the next 30 years was a military wife.  It was during the early years of her marriage that she learned to play golf and continued with that sport until the age of 93.  It was her passion.  She loved to sew and made most of her own clothes, as well as her children’s clothes.  She was active in all aspects of her children’s education; serving on the PTA, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, parades, etc. and any other activity that needed a chaperone or supervisor.  After she and Ray, her 2nd husband, moved to Mesquite, she volunteered to ring the bell for the Salvation Army.  She continued to ring the bell for several years and was the oldest of the bell ringers.
She is survived by her two daughters: Carol Mahelona of Santa Maria, CA; Judy (Robert) Luecke of Lindsay, CA; one son, Dennis J. (Carla) Quesenberry of Yuma, AZ; her beloved nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and her numerous nieces and nephews scattered across the U.S.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herschel Ray Quesenberry, in 1989; grandson Robert L. Luecke, III “Robbie” in 1991; and her second husband, Ray Burgi in 2017.
Funeral arrangements will be private.  Ethelene said it wouldn’t be necessary to have a funeral because she had already outlived all her acquaintances
