Ethel Leavitt
Ethel Leavitt, age 93, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 surrounded by her family at her home in Bunkerville, Nevada. She was born September 1, 1916 in Bunkerville, Nevada to Charles Albert and Lillie May Barnum Leavitt. On June 3, 1936 she married Lorin Abbott Leavitt in the St. George LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1999.
Ethel was born the 11th child of 13, she was a life long resident of Bunkerville. As a young girl she was very active and athletic, always picked to pitch for the boys baseball games. Music was a big part of her family life, she played the piano and the organ by ear. For many years, she and Lorin would play at dances, her on the piano and Lorin on his Saxophone. She spent many hours entertaining at the Senior Center.
She was always active in the LDS Church, serving in many callings, including temple ordinance worker with her husband. She was instrumental in establishing the Bunkerville Cemetery, and served as cemetery and as the LDS church caretaker for many years. She was a wonderful cook and was known for baking award winning pies. She will be remembered as a loving mother, and wife. Her greatest desire was to live eternally with her husband and children.
Survivors include five of her seven children, Cecil (Carol) Leavitt; Judy (Erik) Laub; Dannie (Sharon) Leavitt; Myrna (Steven) Miller; David (Nancy) Leavitt all of Bunkerville, NV; son in law, Larry Gregerson of St. George; 36 grandchildren; 102 great grandchildren; 35 great great grandchildren and one sister, Amy Jacobson of Fallon, Nevada. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sheila and Gloria, one great grandson and one great great granddaughter.
The family would like to thank their friends from Virgin Valley Hospice for their love and care of their mother in these final days of her life.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Bunkerville LDS Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, January 8, 2010 from 6 - 8 p.m. and again Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Bunkerville Cemetery under the direction of Virgin Valley Mortuary.
