Elva Lois Franklin, age 70, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Highland Manor in Mesquite, Nevada. She was born in Derrick's County, Arkansas to Elven Lois and Doshie Lorene Udi Jones. On December 16, 1957 she married James Wayland Franklin in Mexico. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2000. Lois grew up near Lubbock, Texas, graduating from Lubbock High School. After she was married, her and James lived in different areas as he was employed as a brick mason. In 1963 they settled in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in Las Vegas and Alamo, Nevada until 1986 when they moved to Oregon for the farming in Adrian and fishing in Halfway. She owned and operated her own restaurants in Las Vegas and Rachel, Nevada. She enjoyed bowling, gardening and reading and collecting books. Survivors include one son and two daughters: James (Nancy) of Las Vegas, NV; Anitra Castleton of Halfway, OR; Elizabeth (Eric) Hardy of Logandale, NV; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one brother and three sisters: Sue Roberts, Gaye Smith, Bobby D. Jones and Winnie Lorene Davis all of Texas. She was preceded in death by one son, Steven and one grandson. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Halfway Baptist Church in Halfway, Oregon. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Church.
