Elizabeth "Betty" Williams

August 17, 1925 — October 31, 2008

Betty Williams. 83, returned to heaven Friday. October 31. 2008. Betty was born August 17, 1925 in Silver Lake. Kansas to Edward Eckart and Clara Rose Umschied. She married John Williams January 28. 1950 in Yuma. Arizona. Betty moved from California to Highland Manor in Mesquite in 2004.

Raised in Silver Lake. Kansas. Betty moved to Los Angeles. California in 1942. ln the early l960`s she and her family moved to Lake Isabella, California where Betty worked as a waitress and ran her own dog grooming business. Betty and John started the first animal shelter in Lake Isabella where her genuine love for animals was evident as she took in a menagerie of stray and abandoned animals ranging from raccoons to monkeys. Her dog grooming and animal shelter business provided her with many years of joy. She was also very active in Lake Isabella chapter of Women of the Moose. Her favorite pastimes included her weekly Bingo games, cheering for the Sacramento Kings and watching NASCAR.

Betty is survived by her three children. Barbara (Bill) Torres of Mesquite, Nevada; Jim (Marie) Williams of Jacksonville, Florida; Susan (David) Clark of Wasilla, Alaska; and her sister Jean Viergever of Topeka, Kansas; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1992, her sister lrene Rodieger in 1996, and her beloved mother Clara in 2004.

Private arrangements are being handled by Virgin Valley Mortuary.
