Elaine Heeks, age 84, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at her daughter's home in Bunkerville, Nevada. She was born May 20, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois to Oscar and Mabel Johnson Schmitt.

Elaine grew up in Chicago and later moved to Southern California. She married John (Jack) Heeks in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1986. He passed away in January 2001. Elaine moved to Bunkerville in 2007 to be close to her daughter.

Elaine enjoyed sewing, reading, writing letters, and watching old movies. She was a member of the Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ballou, and son-in-law, Mark Ballou, of Bunkerville, Nevada; one cousin, that was like a sister to her, Corinne Hamill of Chicago, Illinois.
