Duaine Clarence Kanwischer, age 78, passed away December 29, 2019 in Mesquite, NV. He was born March 3, 1941 to Clarence and Bernice (Krahler) Kanwischer in Hamberg, Wells County, North Dakota. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Camara) whom he married on December 10, 1980 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Duaine grew up on a farm in North Viking Country, near Hamberg, ND. Upon graduating from UND he became a Hospital/Nursing Home Administrator for Lutheran Hospital and Homes. While President of the Wyoming Health Care Association, he wrote the Policy and Procedures for the National Swing Bed Program of Hospitals and often Lobbied in Washington, DC. He belonged to the Custer City Masonic Lodge #66 in Custer, South Dakota, a Scottish Rites Mason, and Naja Shrine of Deadwood, South Dakota. He also belonged to many Benevolent organizations throughout his life. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hunting from his hunting camp in the Black Hills, snow mobiling, ATV-ing and visiting every National Park he could, while being a paraplegic on crutches, since the age of 17. He was a good, amazing man and will be missed by many.
He is also survived by his brothers; Dennis (Janice) and Jerry (Ruth) of Fessenden, ND; brother, William of Bismark, ND; brother, Allen (Christie) of Wheatland, WY; brother, Dannie (Nancy) of Fargo, ND; and his sister, Judy (Dale) Degenstien, also of Fargo, ND.; plus many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister; Cindy (Kevin) Durrant and sister-in-law, Delores (William) Kanwischer.
