Mesquite, Nevada. Douglas Leroy Hewett, age 74, passed away peacefully July 6, 2021 in the arms of his loving wife Nancy.
He was born May 30, 1947 to Leroy and Margaret (DeConinck Smith) Hewett in The Dalles, Oregon, living most of his life in the Pacific Northwest.
After graduating from high school in Goldendale, Washington Doug attended Pacific Lutheran University and Washington State University before joining the Army during the Viet Nam war, serving at Fort Juachuca, Arizona and in Korea. Before and after his military service he was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad as a freight conductor, retiring in 2007 after nearly 40 years.
He married Nancy Peper March 7, 1996 and they enjoyed 25 years bicycling, motorcycling, hiking, golfing, traveling, adventuring and living life to the fullest. They moved to Mesquite in 2012. Doug never met a stranger and enriched the lives of all his many friends in Mesquite and around the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Carol French of Vancouver, Washington and many cousins.
