Doug Schwartz
June 2, 1958 — June 23, 2016
Douglas Reed Schwartz, age 58, died Thursday, June 23, 2016 in Elko, Nevada. He was born June 2, 1958 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Leon E. and Doris Jane Thompson Schwartz. On July 31, 1981 he married Diane Edlefsen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Doug grew up in the Terreton / Mud Lake area of Idaho. He served an LDS Mission in the Cebu Philippines Mission. He earned his degree from Idaho State University where he played basketball his Freshman year. He started his career at Idaho Central Credit Union in Pocatello, Idaho. He moved his young family to Moapa Valley in 1994. This became home for his family while he served as President / CEO of Moapa Valley Federal Credit Union. In Logandale, he enjoyed team roping, coaching his sons, and many other young men in Football and Basketball. In 2013, he accepted a position with the Elko Federal Credit Union, promoting to CEO in 2015. For over 20 years, he has continued to serve as the Rodeo Director for the Clark County Fair and Rodeo.
Doug was a great businessman, mentor and friend. He was trusted, respected and friendly in all of his dealings. He will be remembered as a loving father and husband and as a loyal friend.
Survivors include his wife, Diane of Spring Creek, NV; one daughter and three sons: Audrey (Kasey) Davis of Logandale, NV; DJ (Ashley) of Las Vegas, NV; Mitchell (Audra) of St. George, UT and Taylor of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren; his mother, Doris Thompson of Nampa, ID; three brothers: Lyle (Susan) of Idaho Falls, ID; Robert (Tera) of Moscow, ID and Farin (Sheri) of Meridian, ID. He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Michael Douglas.
A memorial service will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Spring Creek 3rd Ward Chapel in Spring Creek, Nevada.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale LDS Stake Center. Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moapa Valley Mortuary and on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. prior to services at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Logandale Cemetery.
