Dorothy Artus
Dorothy Ellen (Thayne) Artus, age 74, passed away January 1, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born January 20, 1934 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Emerald Quincey and Vonda Melissa Humphries Thayne.
She was a resident of Las Vegas for 60 years and a resident of Logandale for the past 14. She grew up in sunrise Acres and attended 5th street School and graduated from Las Vegas High School, Class of 1952 where she was active in student council, Totem Pole and served as president and treasurer of Future Homemakers of America. She completed on year of Business College.
On June 20, 1954 she married Loren Artus at the Little Church of the West. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George LDS Temple on February 28, 1976. Dorothy worked a the Fremont Theater, Gas Company, for Drs. Lee and Kline and WhirlAways. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband along cooking, quilting home canning, crocheting, embroidery and shopping.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served as a primary teacher, ward librarian and an outstanding visiting teacher. But most of all, she loved being a grandma. Dorothy never knew a stranger
Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Loren of Logandale; two daughters: Dawn (Tim) DeBerardinis of Logandale, NV; Danielle (Scott) Thorne of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren: Brayde, Kyle, Megan, Tess, Kaylee, Dallas and Jamie; one brother and three sisters: Lloyd (Eva)Thayne of Las Vegas, NV; Deanne Johnson of Overton, NV; Shirley (Bill) Bunker of Alamo, NV; and Carolyn Reingruber of Las Vegas, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one granddaughter, Abbey.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale 5th Ward Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Logandale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Foundation and / or Odyssey Hospice, Las Vegas, Nevada.
