Dora Mae Hoopes, age 77, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in St. George, Utah after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 1, 1933 in Helper, Utah to Nestor Gus and Kate Blackham Mackey.

Dora grew up in Helper. She raised her family in Utah County. In the early 1970's, they moved to Washington County and then to Mesquite in 1984. She was active in the VFW Women's Auxiliary and also enjoyed camping, gardening, reading, art and being with her dogs.

Survivors include two sons and six daughters: Pat (Brent) Jackson of East Carbon, UT; Chris (Steve) Black of Lindon, UT; Cennie (Larry) Smith of Pleasant Grove, UT; Bonnie (Tyler) Black of Mesquite, NV; Gayle (Sue Ivey) Mills of San Diego, CA; Lori (Rick) Houston of Overton, NV; Shane Hoopes of Reno, NV; and LaShan (Myrna) Hoopes of Mesquite, NV; 39 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; and one sister Ruth Atkinson of Provo, UT. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jackie, four brothers, two sisters and longtime companion Jim Grose.
