D.C. Garcia

Desiderio Chavez "D.C." Garcia, age 85, died September 19, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born August 6, 1927 to Antonio and Maria Chavez Garcia. On April 1, 1948 he married Angela Sanchez in Texas. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2002. D.C. grew up in Texas. As a young man, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, which brought him to Moapa Valley, Nevada in 1955. After 33 years with the railroad, he worked part time for the Clark County Parks and Recreation. He enjoyed attending and supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities. He will be remembered for his friendliness, his service, his love of people and his special homemade chili recipe. Survivors include his daughter, Maria Beaver of Overton, NV; his son, Jimmy (Faye) of Bullhead City, AZ; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one brother, Antonio of Walla Walla, WA and one sister, Martina of Chicago, IL. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Lake Mead Baptist Church, Overton, Nevada. Visitation will be Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary. Interment will be in the Logandale Cemetery.
