Denzil W. Pollock
Denzil Wallace Pollock, 93, peacefully passed away October 28, 2010, at his home in Beaver Dam, Arizona. He was born January 28, 1917 in Tropic, Utah to Loram and Maggie Johnson Pollock. He married Emma Brooks March 28, 1939 in the St. George LDS Temple.
He was raised in Tropic and at the age of 16 joined the CCC, where he spent seven years as head cook at various camps in southern Utah. They moved to Hawthorne, Nevada in December 1941, where he worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot for over 30 years. He was an avid "Rock Hound", and spent his leisure time hunting, cutting, tumbling and polishing rocks; then setting them into jewelry, belt buckles, bolo ties, etc. He also enjoyed gardening, camping, and being with family. He has always been an active member of the LDS Church and served as a Bishop of the Hawthorne LDS Ward from 1959 to 1962.
After retiring, Denzil and Emma moved to Westpoint, Utah and were snowbirds, spending the winters in the deserts of Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. Then, after buying property in Beaver Dam in 1982, they developed the Snowbird Trailer Park and spent their winters there. Emma passed away in 1991, and soon after, Denzil traded the trailer park for a small home in Beaver Dam where he has since resided full time.
He is survived by his three daughters, Arlene (Bob) Hughes of Beaver Dam, Denise Andrus of Beaver Dam and Ranae (Jim) Billings of Hawthorne, Nevada; 24 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren with two more on the way; one brother, DeLon (Cindy) Pollock who is now the only surviving sibling in their family of ten children.
