Dennis Mckinney

Dennis Lee McKinney, Sr., age 71, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on July 27, 1949 in Denver, Colorado to Orie Russell and Oreta Rae Irelan McKinney.  On October 9, 2003 he married Darlene Marie Pratt in Las Vegas.

Dennis grew up in Colorado. He served in the United States Marine Corps and finished his military career with the United States Army. Dennis served and fought for his country proudly for 30 years.  He is a Veteran of the Vietnam War as well as Operations Desert Storm & Desert Shield.

Following his retirement, he resided in Barstow, California for several years before moving to Alamo, Nevada in 2005 which he resided for sixteen years. Dennis and Darlene recently relocated to Las Vegas in December 2020 due to health issues.

As a young man, Dennis loved his brothers/family, being outdoors, hunting, fishing, & camping. He also loved teaching as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America.  He was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He loved his family and enjoyed the quiet life of retirement. Some of his enjoyments were, sitting on his porch swing, listening to music and going for walks.  Dennis Sr. was a humorous prankster, as well as a  charismatic & loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and Grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene McKinney; Three brothers: Orie, Brad and Ron; Sister-in-Law Ann McKinney; Five children: Dennis L. McKinney Jr.; Denise Zimmerman-Hegel; Rebecca Thompson, Scott McKinney;  Sarah Bonner; several grandchildren & several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Noon in the Alamo Cemetery.  Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
