Delores D. Simmons
Delores Dianne Simmons, age 64, passed away in Pahrump, Nevada on Sunday, September 27, 2020. She was born January 3, 1956 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Clyde Vernon Lee and Juanita Weed. She was married to Thomas Simmons, until his passing in 1992.
She grew up on her mothers’ land at Chappo Springs, California. She moved to Moapa, Nevada as a teenager and attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico before returning to live in Moapa for the rest of her life.
Delores was an infinitely skilled and creative artist. She enjoyed sketching, painting, sculpture, graphic design, and photography. Curious about the world, she read widely and remains the undisputed Jeopardy champion in her household. She loved the desert and everything her mother taught her about our Paiute culture and homelands. She was an active member of the tribal cultural committee and stood for our cultural rights and heritage as Paiute people. She especially loved the quails and birds that would visit her yard and tending to her many plants.
Survivors include her two daughters, Amber and Kristen Simmons; brother Vernon (Erica) Lee of Moapa, NV; two sisters: Marie Wilson of Pahrump, NV and Jody Lee of Moapa, NV. She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
