Delbert L. Martin

February 11, 1942 — June 10, 2016

It is with great sadness, we mourn the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and friend. Delbert L. Martin passed away at his home in Mesquite, Nevada on June 10, 2016. Del was born on February 11, 1942 to Venna and Charles Delbert Martin in Afton, Wyoming.

Del attended high school in Afton and graduated from Star Valley High in 1960. After high school he moved to Irvine, CA and worked for Sav-on drug until he was drafted into the army and served his country in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam he met and fell in love with Sally Martin and they were married on December 8, 1967. At that time he also took on the role of father to 2 children, and 10 months later 1 more child was added to his rapidly growing family. Del worked as an Idaho State Highway patrolman, as a county deputy and a Quality Assurance Inspector at ATK. Upon his retirement he moved to Mesquite at which time he worked at the Sportsbook at the Casa Blanca and Virgin River casinos until he once again retired a few years ago.

Del and Sally spent 49 years together and loved each other deeply. He is survived by 3 children, Diana Schapiro (Tim), Steve Bradley, Shawn Martin, his brother Wid Martin (Bobbi), 6 grandchildren, Brittany Deges, Blake Schapiro, Taylor Bradley (Ja Tawng), Sierra Bradley, Jayci Martin and Nicholas Martin, 4 great grandchildren, 3 nephews and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Sally who passed away earlier this year, his parents, his brother Tom and many Aunts and Uncles.

Del was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. He was a very devoted husband and for the past few years he took care of his wife as she succumbed to COPD.

Del was very outgoing and made friends quickly. He thoroughly loved living in Mesquite. He loved all the friends he made here and enjoyed working in the Sportsbook. He always looked forward to going to the Eureka, playing video poker, and visiting with his friends. He will be sorely missed.

A funeral service will be held at Virgin Valley Mortuary on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 10:00am with a visitation prior at 9:00am. A graveside will follow at the Mesquite City Cemetery. There will be an open house following the services at 343 Poppy Lane, Mesquite, NV.
