David V. Jahns Jr. died at his home in Mesquite, NV on November 23, 2021. He was 71.David was born in Fort Wayne, IN in 1950. His passion for all things mechanical became apparent when, at a very early age, he took apart the family’s radio and tried to put it back together. He worked as an auto mechanic during high school and college, honing skills that earned him the admiration of family and friends alike. He attended Iowa State University with a focus on mechanical and electrical technology, and enjoyed his career as an electronics trainer with RCA, Thomson Electronics and General Electric. He spent parts of his life in Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Washington, and Minnesota before moving to Nevada in August of this year.
Dave’s passion and talent for fixing things continued well into his retirement years. He collected discarded treadmills, mowers, snow blowers, even motorized kids’ cars to repair and recycle. He was never one to throw away anything that still had life to give. He thought he’d start a golf cart repair business once he settled into his new home in Mesquite, golfing mecca of Nevada---but his plan was cut short by his unexpected death.Dave loved cards and Starbucks coffee, music and films of all kinds, the stock market, slot machines, golf, and Ford Mustangs. His broad, generous smile lit up a room, his hardy laugh was contagious, and his eye for fashion---including Hawaiian shirts and NFL jackets---was something else. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. David was preceded in death by his parents, Arlynne and David Jahns Sr of West Des Moines, IA. He is survived by three sisters---Marsha Jahns of Des Moines, IA, Judith Jahns Aycock (John) of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Andrea Jahns Suptic (Rick) of St. George, UT---along with a brother, Alan Jahns of Lincoln, NE; three nieces and a nephew, and extended family and friends from around the country, especially Earl, Dan, and Jim.
