Cresent Marion Woods

November 25, 1928 — January 11, 2014

Cresent Marion Woods, age 85 was born on November 25, 1928 in St. George, Utah to Joseph Frederick and Orpha Hardy Woods. He died January 11, 2014 in St. George, Utah with his loving daughter Linda and son Joe by his side.

Cresent grew up in Barclay, Nevada where he attended school in a one-room school house from K-8th grade. He then moved to Mesquite, Nv. where he continued his education and graduated from Virgin Valley High School.

Because he grew up working with his father and brothers on their ranch in Barclay, Cresent developed a love for animals, especially horses. He also loved being a cowboy and working with his family. Most of his adult life he was on the road driving diesel trucks. If he wasn't taking his family with him on the road, he would take them with him to enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors. Even though he was small in stature, he always walked tall and carried a big stick. He was always known as being heard before being seen. He loved to see your reaction when he would pick up any stick he could find laying on the ground and approach you yelling every step of the way, then he would calm down, visit with you, and leave you with a Cresent hug. On September 5, 1950 he married his eternal sweetheart, Ellen Hafen in the St. George Temple after which they continued to live in Mesquite and raise a family of five boys and three girls.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen; great-great grandson, Hudson Crandall; one brother, Hale; and his parents, Orpha and Frederick Woods. He had a posterity of 192 family members, which included his children Kerry (Sue); Gary (Teresa); Randy (Nani); Cathy; Jeff (Yolanda); Linda; Joseph (Kelly); Vonda (Clay); 66 grandchildren; 83 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brothers, Lister, Russel, Bruce and sisters, Monta and Orpha.

The family will have a viewing Wed. Jan. 15 in the Mesquite Stake Center from 6-8 p.m. and Thurs. Jan. 16 at 8:30-9:45 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Mesquite Cemetery.
