Connie Boyd

April 4, 1944 — October 28, 2016

Connie Hickam Boyd, age 72, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2016 surrounded by loved ones in Mesquite, Nevada. Connie was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 4, 1944 (4/4/44) to Jack and Pat (Belnap) Hickam and was the second of three children. Connie attended South High School and graduated in 1962. During high school Connie won Teen Queen twice and was director of her high school play "Quality Street." After high school, Connie became involved with the United Methodist community and remained active with Christ United Methodist Church.

Connie met her husband Emerson "Em" J. Boyd during a church youth group event. They were married on January 20, 1968 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Just weeks’ later, Em was drafted and sent to Vietnam. Upon Em’s return, they settled down in Salt Lake to be close to family. Connie and Em remained in Salt Lake until retirement took them to Mesquite, Nevada and Connie could spend her final days doing what she loved, playing bingo.

Connie lived a very full and loving life. There was not a person who came in contact with her that did not walk away feeling they had made a new friend. She was curious about people and had a way about her that made people know she truly cared about them. After settling in Utah, Connie worked at Westminster College as an Executive Assistant to President Manfred Shaw and later became Director of Personnel. Connie held several jobs throughout the years, including playing a major role in helping her sister open a real estate company. Connie spent the last of her working years as an assistant to the counselors at Bonneville Junior High, a job she cherished until retirement. Connie was actively involved in her children’s lives, including sitting on the board of Crown Colony baseball, leading her daughter’s girl scout troop and involvement with The Wesley Bell Ringers. Also, Connie was a constant support system for her parents and mother-in-law, caring for them until their passing.

Connie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Emerson Boyd, her daughter Nicole "Nikki" (Boyd) Underwood (Greg) of Issaquah, WA, her son Bryan Boyd (Molly) of Vista, CA, two grandchildren, Mason and Carter, her sister Julie Carli (Tim) of Sandy, UT, her brother Jerry Hickam (Rhonda) of Ferron, UT, and many beloved family members and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the nurses at Mesa View Hospice and aides from A Caring Hand who spent the past year caring for her.

A celebration of Connie’s life will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Christ United Methodist Church (2375 E. 3300 S., Salt Lake City, UT). Donations may be made to Westminster College, in lieu of flowers. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in their "Guest Book".
