Clyde C. Fancher, Jr.

Clyde Calvin Fancher, Jr. age 83, after fighting a valiant battle with cancer, died a peaceful death Sunday, October 21, 2012 at his home in Overton, Nevada. He was born October 26, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama to Clyde Calvin and Beulah Matilda Blackerby Fancher. Clyde grew up in Alabama. He entered the US Marine Corps as a young man just after WWII. He reenlisted as the Korean Conflict swung into motion. He later joined the US Air Force where he served through part of the Vietnam Conflict. He raised his family in Alaska, Japan, Oklahoma, Mississippi and finally settled in Nevada after his military retirement in 1968. He worked as a civilian airport manager at Desert Rock at the Nevada Test Site. As Las Vegas grew, and he retired, he moved to the quiet town of Overton in 2000. He enjoyed golfing and loved to fly. He volunteered many hours to the Young Eagle Program and to the Civil Air Patrol. He will be remembered for his humanitarian spirit and for his willingness to help those in need. Survivors include his son, Howard (Catherine) of Enterprise, AL; grandchildren, Samuel H. Fancher and Regina C. Cotton; and one sister, Mary Farmer of Four Mile, AL; many nieces and nephews and special friend and loving care giver, Beezy Tobiasson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Corbett. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary, 5090 N. Moapa Valley Blvd., Logandale, Nevada, 702 398-3600. Military Honors and interment will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 12:40 p.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nellis and Clark County Civil Air Patrol.
